JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa said the country remains indebted to people like Motsoko Pheko who spearheaded the liberation of South Africans.
The historian and anti-apartheid lawyer died on Friday at the age of 93 after a long illness.

Ramaphosa has conveyed his condolences to the Pheko family.
As condolences continue to pour in for struggle veteran Pheko, Ramaphosa said Pheko's qualifications and interests made him an invaluable contributor to the intellectual heritage of South Africa.
The United Democratic Movement has also shared its condolences, saying Pheko's commitment to the issue of land rights exemplified his passion for justice and equality.
City of Johannesburg council Speaker Margaret Arnolds said his passing marked the end of a golden era.
The Pheko family has asked for space to deal with his passing while also thanking the public for its support during this time.
