JOHANNESBURG - The Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) has paid tribute to its former president and anti-colonial activist Dr Motsoko Pheko.
Pheko’s family announced on Saturday that the liberation hero died on Friday at the age of 93.
His loved ones have also asked for solidarity during this period as it seeks peace to reflect on Pheko’s life.
The former parliamentarian, who became a qualified lawyer while he was exiled, also penned more than 30 books on politics, theology, international law and history.
Pheko has been described as a tree of knowledge.
While his loved ones take time to reflect on his life and times, the PAC, which he served as president, praised him for promoting Africanness and the right to self-determination.
The party said over the nine decades of his life, the renowned activist managed to intersect with various generations.
These include the Black Consciousness Movement, leaders of the June 1976 youth uprisings, the militant generation of the 1980s and ultimately also the post-1994 generation.
The PAC also hopes Pheko’s lifelong work will inspire the country and continent.
