Lesufi dismisses predictions ANC performance in Gauteng will plummet below 40%
The party's support in the province has been on a steady decline since the 2004 national and provincial election and retained its majority in 2019 with a narrow 50.19%.

JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) chairperson in Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi, has dismissed predictions that the party's performance in the upcoming elections will plummet below 40% in the province.
A recent poll by the Brenthurst Foundation suggests a coalition government is likely to take shape in the province.

Speaking to Eyewitness News during the ANC's campaign at the Anglican Church in Kagiso earlier on Sunday, Lesufi said the party won't lose Gauteng.
In 2019, the ANC in Gauteng nearly dipped below the 50% margin, retaining its majority with a narrow 50.19%.
The party's support in the province has been on a steady decline since the 2004 national and provincial election.
But despite this, Lesufi said polls that suggest the party would plummet below 50% were inaccurate.
“I refuse to endorse fake sangomas because it's only fake sangomas that can predict the future. Those that formulate those polls formulate them based on social media or negative media reporting. They don't know how ANC campaigns.”
Recent polls also suggest the rise of former statesman Jacob Zuma's uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party could become a thorn in the ANC's flesh.
