CAPE TOWN - The cross-examination of a self-confessed hitman who turned State witness in the trial against alleged gang boss, Nafiz Modack, is set to continue on Friday.

Modack and 14 other co-accused are currently on trial in the Western Cape High Court, where they face a slew of charges related to the murder of top cop, Charl Kinnear, Nicolaas Heerschap, the father of a former Hawks officer, tow truck driver Richard Joseph, and the attempted murder of defence attorney, William Booth.

The witness, known only as "Mister A", claims that Modack hired him to murder Heerschap, Joseph and Booth.

Defence attorney Nazeer Parker for co-accused, Ziyaad Poole and Toufeek Brown, on Thursday told the court his clients had never met Mister A.

Mister A alleges that Poole and Brown acted on behalf of Modack to recruit him as a hitman in 2019.

Parker told the court that Brown, who admits he belonged to a gang and was part of Modack's security detail, said if he wanted someone to commit a murder, he would never hire Mister A.

Mister A previously told the court that Poole would send him photographs of Modack's intended victims, including Joseph and Booth, before phoning him with further instructions.

Modack, Poole and Brown deny ever plotting with Mister A to commit murders.

The trial continues on Friday.
