Gauteng launches mobile shower for homeless people
JOHANNESBURG - Homeless people in Gauteng will now have access to mobile showers in public areas across the province, following the launch of the “nansi shower” project.
The provincial social development department says the programme has been established to restore dignity to the homeless community.
Social Development MEC Mbali Hlophe has criticised those who are against the mobile shower project.
She said while these people live on the streets, government still has an obligation to ensure that they are well taken care of.
"When a person is dirty and looked down upon you strip them of their dignity. We can easily undermine it, but you don't know what it means to someone who has not showered for days."
The showers will be located at hotspots known to have large numbers of homeless people.
