Malema questions how BOSA obtained 140,000 signatures to contest polls
Malema said systems need to be put in place to verify the authenticity of signatures as the IEC is not able provide tangible proof that signatures submitted by political organisations are indeed real.

JOHANNESBURG - Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema has questioned how Mmusi Maimane’s Build One South Africa (BOSA) managed to obtain 140,000 signatures.
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) required new political parties contesting the national and provincial elections to submit 60,000 signatures to appear on all three ballot papers.
Speaking during a media engagement in Johannesburg on Friday, Malema said systems need to be put in place to verify the authenticity of signatures.
The EFF said it has approached the IEC requesting it to patch loopholes that are allegedly allowing political parties to submit fake and unverified signatures.
Malema said the Chapter 9 institution was not able to provide tangible proof that signatures submitted by political organisations are indeed real.
“How are we going to know who those signatures belong to because those names are not going to be published?”
He said the EFF plans to escalate the matter further with the IEC, as the red berets leader casts doubt on the credibility of signatures submitted by BOSA.
The IEC has reportedly left it in the hands of Parliament to deal with forgery during the collection of signatures.
