JOHANNESBURG - Police have arrested three men in connection with the assassination of a Rand Water executive and his bodyguard in January.
Teboho Joala and his bodyguard were killed in a brazen hit in full view of hundreds of primary school pupils at a donation event hosted by Rand Water at Zakariyya Park Civic Hall, south of Johannesburg, on 29 January.
Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili said the suspects were hiding in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
“The team, which is inclusive of the Provincial Crime Detection Tracking Team as well as Tactical Response Team, traced the first suspect and arrested him yesterday [Thursday] while on his way from KZN to Gauteng. Upon questioning him, two more suspects were traced to their hiding place in KZN, where they were also apprehended.”
She said another man was arrested last month, after being found in possession of the suspected murder weapon.
“The 27-year-old accused Ayanda Ngwenya remains in custody, and his case has been remanded to 26 April 2024.”
