JOHANNESBURG - The Soweto highway is a no-go zone on Thursday morning due to a protest in Noordgesig.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) said protesters blocked Eben Cyler and Mooki Street with rocks.
It's understood that they have taken to the streets over a lack of service delivery in the area.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla urged motorists to use other routes.
"The situation is calm besides the closure, and officers have been dispatched. The closure is causing heavy traffic disruptions, with vehicles having to divert. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, avoid and use alternative routes, such as the N17."
