CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Finance and Economic Opportunities MEC, Mireille Wenger says the provincial government has injected R85 million through its Booster Fund to assist over 950 small businesses since 2019.
Applications for the 2024 SMME [small, medium and micro enterprises] Booster Fund will open in May.
Wenger said the fund does a lot more than just allocate funds.
She said it also helps remove barriers to help women, youth, and township-owned businesses grow.
Wenger added that as small businesses are the backbone of the country's economy, responsible for up to 70% of jobs, it's important to ensure that they thrive.
"We are more determined than ever to boost the foundations for economic growth, and to enable the expansion of SMMEs so we can enable hundreds of thousands of new jobs to lift more people out of poverty and into prosperity in the Western Cape."
