The police confirmed the death of 63-year-old Markus Jooste last month, following his alleged suicide a day after the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) imposed a R475 million administrative fine on him for accounting irregularities at Steinhoff.
Jooste was central to the 'Steinhoff Heist', which cost South Africa’s Public Investment Corporation nearly R200 billion.

Now, social media is ablaze with suspicion over the circumstances of his death, particularly concerning the location of his body.
Despite inquiries, police refuse to disclose any additional details regarding Jooste’s death.
According to IOL, Western Cape police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut stated Jooste's death is still under investigation, with no new developments to report.
Some South Africans are sceptical, questioning the lack of visual evidence of Jooste's death, the absence of a memorial or funeral service, and the uncertainty surrounding his burial or cremation.
Some speculate that Jooste may still be alive.
