GDE to appoint independent law firm to investigate drowning of 2 Daveyton Skills School pupils

JOHANNESBURG - An independent law firm will be appointed to investigate an incident in which two teenagers drowned while on a school excursion in Gauteng on Monday.
On Wednesday, provincial education MEC, Matome Chiloane, visited the Daveyton Skills School where two boys aged between 14 and 17 attended.
He was there to learn more about the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
The boys drowned in the Hennops River on Monday.
Preliminary information has revealed that one of the boys was trying to save his fellow pupil after he jumped into the river.
Since the beginning of the year, three pupils have died in Gauteng after drowning.

Chiloane said immediate action would be taken through the appointment of a law firm.
"We will institute an independent law firm, and that law firm will assist us to get the bottom of the matter."
Chiloane is also set to meet the families of the two deceased pupils.
