Rihanna is serving up LEWKS with a side of controversy for the cover of Interview Magazine's Spring 2024 edition.
Shot by Nadia Lee Cohen, the image for the cover story, titled 'Rihanna is Ready to Confess', features the star in a stripped-down nun look that includes an oversized white shirt slipping down off one shoulder and full habit. Channeling both the 90s and Betty Boop aesthetics, her makeup look includes glossy red lips, bold blue eyeshadow, pencil-thin brows and a little cross on her cheek.
The Fenty Beauty mogul posted some teaser images of the shoot to her Instagram about a week ago, opening the floodgates of controversy.
Some fans appreciated the art and were in awe of Rihanna doing what she does best - slaying and breaking boundaries.
Others weren't so appreciative, critiquing the look for being 'unholy', 'disrespectful' and 'mocking Christianity'.
One fan went as far as saying that Riri lost her as a fan.
Other images accompanying the story show a much less glamorous side to Rihanna, including shots with blotchy, over-powdered makeup and wigs sliding off her head, as well as a few featuring glossy, minimal eye makeup and bleached eyebrows.
Rihanna posted the images to her Instagram page, captioning one particularly un-glamorous shot, 'literally how I feel in postpartum with 2 under 2'.
Some fans appreciated the singer for getting real with her visual representation of motherhood - rough and tough - but others did not love the tortured look.
What's your take: artistic appreciation or tone deaf?
