JOHANNESBURG - The defence has challenged evidence over the confiscation of cellphones from two of the accused in the Senzo Meyiwa trial.
On Monday, the court heard that Fisokuhle Ntuli and Bongani Ntanzi were found with cellphones in their prison cells between August 2020 and February 2021.
The phones have been used in the State's case.
State witness, Sergeant Vusumuzi Mogane, claims Ntanzi was found in his prison cell in Valeria, months after his arrest, with a cell phone in his possession.
But his lawyer, Sipho Ramosepele, has denied this: "Accused #2 will also tell the court that at any stage all the police stations he was at he was never found in possession of any phone because those phones were confiscated when he was arrested in June 2020."
Ramosepele has also questioned whether police took down the serial number of the phone that they claim to have confiscated but Mogane said he did not think to do so.
