Chinese shopping websites such as Shein and Temu are taking the internet by storm.
They entice customers with cheap goods, but there is a dark side that many don’t consider, warns Vermeulen.
MyBroadband recently reported on the security and labour issues concerning these online stores.
“They are under investigation and under severe scrutiny in the United States for their labour practices. There are some concerns that they are using forced labour to manufacture their goods which explains why they are so cheap.”
- Jan Vermeulen, Editor - MyBroadband
Temu denies it uses forced labour, but has not provided evidence to back up its defence.
There are also concerns over the security of the stores’ mobile apps and the safety of their customers' data.
