The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and ANC have shaky but stable governing coalitions in eThekwini and Johannesburg metros.
However, there is no municipality where the cracks between the two parties have been visible than Ekurhuleni.
During the previous administration, the ANC in this region publicly and privately pleaded to its national leaders to end the relationship with the EFF as the red berets were difficult to work with.
Meanwhile, the EFF accused the ANC of being bitter as it was being outshined by their councillors.
In Ngodwana’s reign, the ANC and EFF had five MMC seats each, with EFF Councillor Nkululeko Dunga assuming the all-important position of MMC for Finance.
