Malema woos minority voters, using Carl Niehaus’ National Assembly nod as proof

The EFF leader has historically ruffled the feathers of the white people, but with polls suggesting his party could either plateau or be adversely affected in areas like KZN, Malema is seeking to bring minority groups under the umbrella of the red berets.

JOHANNESBURG –Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says Carl Niehaus being placed high on the party’s national candidate list ahead of the May elections is to show white people that the organisation has no problem with them.

During a town hall meeting with the community of Lenasia at the weekend, Malema called on minority groups to support his party.

Niehaus is number 27 on the EFF list, and is most likely to represent the fighters in the National Assembly.

The long-serving African National Congress (ANC) member was expelled in 2022. He then joined the EFF in December last year.

Malema has historically ruffled the feathers of the white people. But now, with polls suggesting his party could either plateau or be adversely affected in areas like KwaZulu-Natal, where it saw the most growth in 2019, Malema is on a charm offensive, seeking to bring minority groups under the umbrella of the red berets, and using expelled ANC veteran Carl Niehaus as an example.

“Carl is top was EFF trying to tell white people we have no problems with white people, that’s why we even vote for them to go to Parliament to represent the EFF,” Malema said.

This week will see the fighters make tour stops in Eldorado Park, and meeting with members of the white community.
