JOHANNESBURG - City Power is working to restore electricity supply to some parts of Roodepoort, that have been without electricity since yesterday.

Large parts of the area, west of Johannesburg, were plunged into darkness after a tree fell onto its transmission lines.

The utility said the city's employees were cutting down some overgrown trees when the incident happened.

Spokesperson Isaac Mangena said power would remain off until repairs were completed.

"Currently we have teams on the ground. This affected four major substations. To ensure that they clear the trees and reconstruct the line at least one circuit. If we can get it up, we will be able to restore power while the second circuit is being attended to."
