CAPE TOWN - Friday is the last day for parents in the Western Cape to submit applications on time for grade 1 and 8 admissions for the 2025 academic year.

The grade 1 and 8 online admissions window for the 2025 school year opened on 11 March.

So far, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has already received applications for more than 80,000 Grade 1 and 8 pupils.

In 2024, the department received over 125,000 Grade 1 and 8 applications.

The WCED's Bronagh Hammond said receiving all applications on time will make a big difference to the department's planning and preparations for 2025.

"We appeal to all parents with Grade 7 learners going into Grade 8 to ensure they apply online today [Friday]. At midnight tonight it will then be allocated as a late application."
