CAPE TOWN - City of Cape Town firefighters Jermaine Carelse and Renaldo Duncan are ready to tackle the Two Oceans race on Sunday in a bid to raise funds for Volunteer Wildfire Services.
Carelse and Duncan will be donning heavy firefighting gear throughout the race in 2024 to raise awareness while aiming to finish before the three-hour and thirty-minute cutoff time.
The duo will be attempting this feat for the third time.
Carelse said Volunteer Wildfire Services has been instrumental in helping the city fight fires over the busy fire season in the Western Cape recently.
"They have been on our side at the majority of the mountain fires since the start of December last year. The most notable fires would be the one in Simons Town, Glencairn, Red Hill, Kalk Bay, Ocean View, and all different types of fires."
Mayco Member for Safety and Security JP Smith urged the public to support the volunteers.
"Please go to find the Volunteer Wildfire website or social media channels and hit that donate button. Every little bit helps, and we appreciate those who have already opened their hearts and wallets to the cause."
