JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC)'s secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula, says the family of late struggle icon - Chris Hani - is well within its rights to criticise the governing party.
Speaking at Hani’s 31st commemoration in Boksburg Wednesday, his widow, Limpho, unreservedly listed the party’s shortfalls and failures since winning power in 1994.
She has slammed the ANC-run government for dragging its feet in capacitating the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), ending load shedding and combating the ever-rising cost of living.

Chris Hani’s widow Limpho said her late husband’s assassination wasn’t worth the pain and struggle millions of South Africans are forced to contend with.
She insisted that the challenges faced by citizens 30 years into democracy were not what Hani and other liberation heroes died for.
"My personal belief is that there is no political will to solve the challenges we have as a country."
But Mbalula welcomed Limpho’s scathing words as constructive criticism.
"You have got to accept, it's the truth and we know ourselves. That is why we are dealing with load shedding and challenges of water in the country."
Mbalula said the party had cleansed itself from corruption and incompetence.
