JOHANNESBURG - Emergency services in Gauteng are monitoring flooded bridges in Tshwane and traffic jams reported across Johannesburg.
The SA Weather Service has warned of severe downpours expected in Gauteng.
The persistent rainfall has left roads slippery and traffic lights have been affected, making it difficult for traffic to flow.
Emergency services officials in Gauteng say they have their hands full, with some areas affected by flash flooding overnight.
Bridges around Centurion, which have been closed, and several roads have been declared no-go zones.
In Johannesburg, metro police are on standby as the downpours are anticipated to worsen Monday morning's traffic congestion.
JMPD spokesperson, Xolani Fihla: "Wet roads can be slippery. Reducing speed gives you more time to react if the car in front of you brakes suddenly."
Meanwhile, the weather service said that residents can expect the cold spell to persist for the rest of the week.
