In the post, a white pupil is seen pursuing a career as a vet while a black learner is photographed behind a cash register.
The school has been involved in racist incidents in the past, with a teacher being dismissed in 2023 for calling a black colleague a monkey.
The department said in its engagements with the school, it found that the error was in how the pictures were selected when they were posted online.
"The parents of the learner depicted as a cashier was in interaction with the school and supported them [by] providing them [with] more information, as far as this matter is concerned," said spokesperson Steve Mabona.
