CAPE TOWN - Cape Town's airport has processed a record number of international arrivals between January and February.
Stats SA said the figure had surpassed the 200,000 mark, exceeding the 2019 figure of just over 194,000 for the same period.
Finance and Economic Opportunities MEC Mireille Wenger said that visitor numbers at key attractions were also up 20% year-on-year.
"We know that for every 100 international tourists to the Western Cape, R2.1 million in direct tourist spend is generated, contributing R500,000 to the provincial gross domestic product, and enabling two local jobs. This is why this is more excellent news for the sector because we know that more tourists mean more jobs."
