CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Premier Alan Winde said that 195 health facilities in the province had generator capacity to continue essential services during power cuts.

Winde said that ten hospitals in the province had also been exempted from load shedding up to stage six.

The premier assessed the province's energy interventions this week with site visits to Stellenbosch and Saldanha Bay.

"I went to Cloetesville Primary School, which was a partnership between a government school and the University of Stellenbosch, where solar panels have been put onto a school and an inverter system in the school, so now the school operates during load shedding."

Winde said that similar projects were being rolled out at other schools across the province.

"So, it's critical that we have municipalities investing at the same time as province in making sure that we're mitigating load shedding levels but we are also making sure that we are stopping the disaster happening when load shedding happens."
