JOHANNESBURG - The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has denied giving National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula any special treatment in the run-up to her arrest.

The Speaker must hand herself in after the Pretoria High Court struck her interdict application off the roll with costs.

In her ruling, Judge Sulet Potterill said authorities were lenient and courteous towards the Speaker.

"A court cannot interdict to prevent statutory authorities to comply with their statutory duties and it's not as if the state representatives have not been lenient and has let two weeks go by."

But NPA spokesperson, Mthunzi Mhaga, said the Speaker had not been treated any different to others accused of corruption.

"This is not, it is open to every citizen in the country. It has happened in the past, it's just that I don't have the names of people we have extended that courtesy to before."
