Saturday, 6 April, is a massive day on S3 (formerly known as SABC 3)!
That’s when the much-anticipated second season of the fun-filled television singing contest, The Masked Singer South Africa, kicks off with a song and dance.
To date, Primedia Studios, and production company Rose and Oaks Media, have lifted the lid on three of the 16 costumed characters concealing A-list stars.
After performing on stage in spectacular sing-offs and sharing some clues about their identity, the show’s coveted Golden Mask trophy awaits the celebrity who manages to stay anonymous right until the end.
Fans of the show already know that a suave Giraffe will stick out its long neck to rise above the competition.
Furthermore, it has been revealed that Gold and Tortoise are also ready to conquer The Masked Singer South Africa stage.

However, Gold will not be the only high-carat star polished to perfection for this zany singing competition.
Usually, they make a fine-jewellery pair, but in The Masked Singer South Africa Season 2, the precious metal will have to outshine the world’s most popular gemstone, Diamond.
Besides these mined masked treasures, all kinds of creatures from the animal kingdom will be vying for The Masked Singer South Africa crown. And the cat is out of the bag: Cheetah is up for the chase to the finishing line.
Still, the question remains: how much speed is needed to stay anonymous? Will Cheetah deceive the detective panel with lightning-fast moves, or will slow Tortoise keep some difficult clues to crack under its shell?
The Masked Singer South Africa’s dazzling yet quirky outfits were designed and manufactured by the talented team from Hollywood Costumes.
“Each Mask is unique, eye-catching, and was made with painstaking attention to detail,” says owner Heidi du Toit.
Diamond comprises hundreds of smaller diamond-shaped sewn items, as part of the overall gemstone shape, and Cheetah’s flowing mane was made from soft human hair.
One can’t help but wonder who will be behind these masks.
The first season's winner, Lollipop, turned out to be singer-songwriter Holley Rey, while runner-up Rhino was unmasked as Kurt Darren.
The other household names hiding in masks were Mmusi Maimane, Victor Matfield, Doctor Khumalo, Bongani Bingwa, Devi Sankaree Govender, Jason Goliath, David Kau, Zozibini Tunzi, Maps Maponyana, Abdul Khoza, Zikhona Sodlaka, Shekhinah, Makhadzi and The Lazy Makoti.
While the 16 new Masks are gearing up for their debut on The Masked Singer South Africa, last season’s masks have hit the road for a swan song at malls across the country.
Capetonians can catch them at Primedia Land at the Blue Route Mall from 4 to 7 April.
