JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) has won its case against the African National Congress (ANC) and its secretary general Filike Mbalula.
On Wednesday, the Johannesburg High Court found the governing party in contempt of court.
The court has ordered the ANC to hand over its cadre deployment records within 15 days to uphold a 2021 ruling by the Constitutional Court.
Moreover, the court ordered the ANC to pay the opposition party's legal costs on the application.
The DA approached the court last month, accusing the ANC of withholding records of its cadre deployment committee since 2013.
DA to Mbalula: Provide ANC's full cadre deployment records or face jail time
Three years ago, the DA took the ANC to court over these records, with the governing party handing over limited information.
This led to the DA taking the party to court, once again, to get the Pretoria High Court to hold the ANC and Mbalula in contempt of court.
While the court dismissed the application, claiming it was built on speculation, the DA approached the Johannesburg High Court on an urgent basis last month.
Agreeing with the official opposition party, the high court condemned the ANC for failing to disclose the records.
The DA has welcomed the decision, urging the ANC to adhere to the time frame given by the court.
