Makgoba says it's only through the combined efforts of various campaigns that, for the first time, a security council resolution mandating a ceasefire in Gaza has been possible.

CAPE TOWN - Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town Thabo Makgoba is calling on Israel and Hamas to lay down their arms and adhere to a United Nations (UN) Security Council resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza.
He brought this to light during his Easter sermon at St George’s Cathedral on Saturday night.

Makgoba said it's only through the combined efforts of various campaigns that, for the first time, a security council resolution mandating a ceasefire in Gaza has been possible.
"We call for that ceasefire to be implemented immediately. If both Israel and Hamas do not put down their weapons, they deserve to become pariahs among civilised people."
He added that a ceasefire would be a testament to the spirit of Easter.
"Achievements such as bringing about a ceasefire reflect...new beginnings, shifts in consciousness, and new thresholds in history. They all proclaim the Easter message."
On 25 March, the UN Security Council passed a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
