JOHANNESBURG - The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party is suspecting "foul play" in the car accident involving former president Jacob Zuma in Eshowe on Thursday night.
Police said that an alleged drunk driver hit a state armoured vehicle that was transporting Zuma.
No one was hurt in the accident.
The uMkhonto weSizwe political party, which is Zuma's new political home, is calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the former president’s car accident.
Police have arrested a 51-year-old man on suspicion of drunk driving and reckless and negligent driving.
However, MK’s head of elections, Musa Mkhize, said he believed there was more to it.
"As uMkhonto weSizwe Party we are hugely concerned about the safety of all South Africans and the safety of the former president, who is in support of uMkhonto weSizwe. We also believe there is also a foul play under his life."
The alleged drunk driver is expected to appear at the Eshowe Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
