JOHANNESBURG - Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) chairperson in Gauteng, Nkululeko Dunga, has slammed the African National Congress (ANC) caucus for turning their back on former Ekurhuleni mayor, Sivuyule Ngodwana, who has been ousted.
Ngodwana, who is an African Independent Congress (AIC) councillor, was removed through a motion of no confidence sponsored by ActionSA earlier on Thursday.
He was elected to the position exactly a year ago through a coalition made up of the ANC, EFF and minority parties.
Dunga has lambasted the ANC for abstaining from the vote of no confidence against the former mayor.
"From where we are standing, the vote of abstaining is a vote nonetheless. It's a vote for the motion in itself, there should be no grey and blurred lines in terms of voting."
Meanwhile, council Speaker and EFF member, Nthabiseng Tshivhenga, who was in also firing line on Thursday, survived a motion of no confidence.
This time the ANC joined hands with the EFF to keep her in the mayoral position.
Dunga hasn’t ruled out the possibility of his party fixing its disputes with the ANC.
"We do have a joint political management committee that discusses and engages on our differences. It’s just that we couldn’t find one another in this particular case but you would have noted that we had the same idea on the Speaker of council."
