DURBAN - Arguments came before the court in the matter between the African National Congress (ANC) and the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party over the logo and name dispute.
This saw the governing party taking the lead in presenting heads of arguments.
The ANC brought the matter to court to stop the MK Party from using the name and logo linked to its armed wing.

The ANC has tried to stop the MK Party from using the name and logo since 2023, but its warning fell on deaf ears.
Both parties were in the Durban Magistrates Court on Wednesday, a day after the ANC lost its bid to have the MK Party deregistered for the upcoming election.
The ANC’s lawyer, Gavion Marriot, told the court that MK remains an integral part of the party’s history.
He added that despite the ANC having disbanded MK, it remains linked to it.
“The fact that approval was sought doesn’t change the fact that it was [the ANC] that formed and always controlled uMkhonto weSizwe and that there is a link between MK and ANC in the minds of the South African people.”
The case continues in court as more arguments are expected.
