Clarence Ford interviews Nicholas Avramis, Canadian immigration consultant.

Listen below.

Avramis reports that his offices noticed a 31% uptick in processing applications for Canadian work permits.

By the end of last year, over 4000 immigration applications had also been handled.

Avramis adds that the National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme is a primary factor prompting the departure of South African healthcare professionals, many of whom are unwilling to wait and assess the scheme's impact on their careers in South Africa.

He says the significant impact of the country's unstable economy, exacerbated by uncertainty over the upcoming elections, is the reason businesses are moving abroad.

"We've seen a dramatic increase in the number of work permits issued."
