JOHANNESBURG - Cell phone records from the seven men accused of the murders of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane have placed them at points of interest on the day in question.
AKA and Tibz were gunned down outside Wish restaurant on Florida road in February 2023.
Five of the seven men appeared before the Durban Magistrates Court on Tuesday, where the State opposed their bail release.
Evidence from investigating officer Kumaran Pillay has linked the five men to the murders via cellphone records and CCTV footage.
Reading Pillay’s affidavit into the record, State prosecutor advocate Elvis Gcweka said four of the five men picked up guns and a getaway vehicle that was used on the day.
“The evidence therefore establishes that applicants one, two, four and five were part of the group who went to collect the Mercedes Benz and the firearms used in the killing of the deceased that day.”
Pillay alleges the men converged at a meeting spot near Jacobs on the M4 highway to collect the vehicle and the firearms.
Two months after the killings, the vehicle was recovered in Cato Ridge and positively identified as the getaway vehicle used in the commission of the crime due to a damaged left headlight.
