KZN Health Department shocked by the murder of paediatrician Dr Zamambo Mkhize

On Friday evening, Mkhize, who worked as a paediatrician at Harry Gwala Regional Hospital in Edendale, near Pietermaritzburg, was found dead in her vehicle.

JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Health in KwaZulu-Natal said they are shocked by the murder of Doctor Zamambo Mkhize.
 
On Friday evening, Mkhize, who worked as a paediatrician at Harry Gwala Regional Hospital in Edendale, near Pietermaritzburg, was found dead in her vehicle.
 
Her body was found stuffed into the boot of her car with abrasions on her face and a single gunshot wound to her head.

Doctor Zamambo Mkhize’s body was found stuffed into the boot of her VW by police, which was abandoned on the J18 road in Imbali township at about 8 pm on Friday night.
 
Eyewitness News understands the area where the 39-year-old paediatrician’s vehicle was found, was about three kilometres from Harry Gwala Regional Hospital, where she worked.
 
It is understood she left work at about 2 pm to fetch one of her two children to take them to the hospital as KZN Health spokesperson, Mdu Ncalane, explains.
 
"She reported for duty on the day and left early to attend to an emergency at home but never arrived. The department urges SAPS to leave no stone unturned in investigating and apprehending the perpetrators."
 
Mkhize lived in the plush suburb of Hilton, situated about 20 minutes away from the Harry Gwala Regional Hospital.
 
She leaves behind two children and her husband.
