CAPE TOWN - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has objected to having nine of its MPs sanctioned by Parliament for disrupting President Cyril Ramaphosa two years ago.

On Monday, the powers and privileges committee adopted its report into the incident on 9 and 10 June 2022, where EFF Members of Parliament (MPs) disrupted Ramaphosa’s presidency budget.

Concluding its disciplinary hearings into several EFF MPs for past transgressions, the committee handed more sanctions to EFF MPs who disrupted the house during two sittings two years ago.

The MPs, include the party’s spokesperson Sinawo Tambo and Naledi Chirwa have been ordered to apologise to Ramaphosa.

Protocol officer Victor Ngaleka read out some of the punishment.

"For Ms Paulita Marais, Naledi Chirwa, Ms Babalwa Mathulelwa and Mr Sinawo Tambo, the committee recommended that a fine equivalent to a month's salary and allowances should be imposed."

But MP, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi maintained the party’s position.

"Without wasting much time, please just a reflection to my objection to the findings."

The report will go to the house for adoption on Tuesday.
