DURBAN - Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) president Velenkosini Hlabisa said there was a need for political maturity in Kwazulu-Natal ahead of the upcoming polls.
Hlabisa briefed journalists in Durban following the recent conflict between the party and its main opponent, the African National Congress (ANC).
The briefing follows the alleged attack of ANC members by IFP supporters, something the IFP denied.
Hlabisa urged parties to be mindful of their utterances to avoid political conflicts.
For the IFP, allegations that ANC supporters attacked in Ulundi were beaten up by IFP followers is just misinformation.
The party believes this is some electioneering stunt to dent its image.
"We believe that at this time of heightened political sensitivity, accusations should not be made lightly. if we are to protect the integrity of this election and ensure that it is indeed free and fair, a higher level of political maturity is required."
On Wednesday, the ANC in the province said while violence between the two parties is not a usual occurrence, it's likely for its supporters to get attacked in IFP strongholds.
Both parties are expected to meet for peace talks.
