JOHANNESBURG - Police have confirmed an inquest docket into the death of former Steinhoff CEO, Markus Jooste, has been registered at Hermanus Police Station in the Western Cape.
They've further confirmed that Jooste died on the way to hospital after he sustained a gunshot wound earlier on Thursday.
This comes hot on the heels of a R475 million penalty slapped on Jooste on Wednesday by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA).
The penalty came after he was embroiled in an accounting scandal that collapsed the global retailer.
While reports suggest he shot himself during an arrest, police said the circumstances surrounding his death were being investigated.
