JOHANNESBURG - The tribunal hearing of senior judge, Tshifhiwa Maumela, will stall for over two months following his hospitalisation.
Maumela, who is the former presiding judge in the Senzo Meyiwa trial, is accused of gross misconduct and gross incompetence for failing to hand down judgments over an extended period.
He was later removed from the case and others due to being unwell.
Judge Maumela’s judicial conduct tribunal hearing was set down to run until Friday but that has now been halted.
On Tuesday morning, his lawyers informed the tribunal of his hospitalisation, seeking a postponement which was handed down by retired Judge Chris Jafta.
"The matter is postponed to the 27th of May as a holding date pending the health situation of Judge Maumela."
On Monday, Judge President Dunstan Mlambo made some scathing allegations against Maumela, saying that at no point did Maumela ever give reasons for failing to hand down some judgments that remained outstanding for years.
Maumela will have to present his case in May.
