CAPE TOWN - The search for missing skipper John Matambu and another man continues after the charter fishing ski boat they were on was found wrecked and burnt out in the vicinity of Dobela on the Mozambique coastline.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said it was alerted at around 5pm on Saturday to concerns that charter vessel ski boat Magnum Too went missing at sea in uncertain circumstances, which appeared to indicate foul play.

The ski boat might have departed Sodwana Bay early that morning.mThe other passenger who was aboard has not yet been identified.

The chartered ski boat was expected to return to Sodwana Bay on Saturday afternoon.

The organisation said Matambu's disappearance is of great concern because it's not normal for the well-known and respected local skipper to fail to report in and/or to return to Sodwana.

The NSRI's Craig Lambinon said: “Police and law enforcement, security agencies and maritime authorities are continuing in an extensive search and investigations to try to locate the two missing men and to piece together what has transpired."
