JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Correctional Services are probing claims that disgraced doctor, Nandipha Magudumana, was the victim of an assault while in prison.

Magudumana’s legal team issued a statement on Monday claiming she was assaulted by other inmates at Kroonstad Prison, where she is currently an awaiting trial inmate.

Department of Correctional Services spokesperson, Singabhako Nxumalo, said that he was in the process of confirming with the prison head coordinator if a complaint was reported.

The department said that they could not comment on whether Magudumana was assaulted until they had confirmed with the Kroonstad Prison authorities.

Magudumana, the alleged main accomplice in the grand prison escape of Facebook rapist, Thabo Bester, was allegedly assaulted by fellow inmates on Saturday.

Her legal team said that this was not the first time it happened, as a complaint was previously laid with the prison head coordinator.

The mother of two is said to have sustained physical injuries.

She was arrested in Tanzania in May last year after being on the run with Bester, who escaped lawful custody from the Mangaung Prison where he was serving a life sentence for rape and murder.
