JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng's water woes are far from over as Rand Water now warns its systems are under severe strain due to current hot weather conditions.
Rand Water's troubled Eikenhof pump station is struggling to supply at full capacity because of high demand amid the extreme hot weather.
Households and businesses in Randburg and Roodepoort are some of the vast areas experiencing another setback with water.
This comes as Joburg Water is investigating how a valve at the Eikenhof pump station was turned off for a long time which interrupted supply.
Meanwhile, City of Tshwane Spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said some reservoirs have been shut to build capacity.
"The city is observing high water consumption/usage which exacerbates the situation. Furthermore, the city is currently exceeding its limit in terms of the bulk water supply allocation."
Both metros are urging residents to use water sparingly, to prevent prolonged outages.
