JOHANNESBURG - An e-hailing driver in Gauteng has been sentenced to two life terms for rape, kidnapping, and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Emmanuel Mudau was a registered Bolt driver when the crimes occurred in 2022.
He targeted women from Cosmo City, who were using the service to get to various destinations.
During the trial, four victims detailed how the 30-year-old refused to drive them to their intended destinations and instead violated them in secluded areas.
It's understood that in two separate incidents, the victims tried to run away.
But Mudau stabbed one and choked the other until she gave in to his demands.
"The bolt driver Emmanuel Mudau was sentenced to two life terms plus 60 years imprisonment by the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division in Johannesburg for raping women who were requesting e-hailing services around the area of Cosmo City between January and February 2022," said NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane.
"The sentences imposed for four counts of rape, four of kidnapping and two of assault to do grievous bodily harm were ordered to run concurrently."
