JOHANNESBURG - Award-winning South African songstress Lira is making a much-awaited return to the stage after suffering a stroke two years ago. 

Lira, whose real name is Lerato Molapo, last wowed audiences in Germany in 2022, as the stroke affected her ability to read, write, and speak. 

But the 45-year-old’s fans will be pleased to know she’s set to serenade music lovers in May on Africa Day in Johannesburg. 

Music fans have received the news of Lira’s return with much jubilation and warmth, with many taking to social media to share their joy at the news.

Lira’s comeback will be a significant one as it falls on Africa Day, a day marked to celebrate the richness of the continent.

The songstress, who’s been missed in the music scene, is set to headline the Bassline Festival at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg on 25 May.

The festival, which is a firm favourite on the annual social calendar, will be a feast of art across the board, including dialogues and activities for children.

The main concert boasts a star-studded line-up, with Lira at the forefront.

Although she highlighted that much of the effects of the stroke are irreversible, Lira’s recovery is finally at a point where she can reunite with her adoring fans through music again.
