Parly committee finds nine EFF MPs guilty of calling Ramaphosa a 'money launderer'

JOHANNESBURG - Another group of EFF MPs face parliamentary sanctions after being found guilty of contempt of Parliament.

The nine were found guilty of calling President Cyril Ramaphosa a money launderer and refusing to withdraw the remarks during the Presidency budget on the 9th and 10th of June 2022.

The powers and privileges committee concluded its hearing into the disruptions after it was delayed in January.

Wednesday's guilty verdict makes them the third group of the red berets to be found guilty by the committee in just a few months.

Late last year the committee also found EFF MPs guilty of contempt after disrupting a question session in August 2022 as well as last year’s SONA.

Advocate Penelope Magona-Dano said one MP Natasha Ntlangwini used unparliamentary language which led to disruptions.

"The member called the President a money launderer and accused him of criminal conduct and this disrupted the proceedings of the national assembly."

But EFF counsel Mfesane Ka-Siboto said the MPs were also victims of unparliamentary conduct but no one was charged.

"At the same time no sanction follows some other party members who called Mr Floyd Shivambu a VBS looter and a murderer. "

The committee is expected to confirm the guilty finding and sanctions before referring the matter to the National Assembly.
