JOHANNESBURG - The motion of no confidence against Ekurhuleni Mayor Sivuyile Ngodwana is finally underway in Germiston, following several delays.
ActionSA wants Ngodwana to be axed, accusing him of pushing the already troubled metro closer to the brink.
The party doesn't believe that the city’s finances and service delivery can be stabilised under Ngodwana's watch.
The motion follows the tabling of the Auditor General’s (AG) audit report earlier on Tuesday, where Ekurhuleni received an unqualified audit with findings, falling short of a clean audit for the first time in three years.
Chairperson of the Independent Ratepayers’ Association Izak Berg said the AG's report is a sign of trouble in Ngodwana's administration.
"When the mayor was elected, I asked him to fix four potholes, just four. I drove past them this morning and they were still not fixed. I’ve known you for a couple of years, you’ve moved from a respectful man to a puppet. You will be known as the one who took this metro from a clean audit for a couple of years, to an unqualified audit."
The EFF's Julius Mdluli said the party is against the motion.
"The EFF understands that we are in the season of elections and that many chance takers will want to take what has been a responsible and an exemplary government, which has been characterised by continuous provision of services for our people."
