Disaster teams on standby as heavy rain forecast for parts of KZN
The weather warning for Wednesday follows an alert level 6 warning of disruptive rains expected in the northern parts of the province.

DURBAN - KwaZulu Natal’s Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Department is warning residents in parts of the province of heavy downpours which are likely to cause damage.
The weather warning for Wednesday follows an alert level 6 warning of disruptive rains expected in the northern parts of the province.

KZN COGTA spokesperson Siboniso Mngadi said flooding was especially likely over the northeastern parts of the province.
“The level 6 alert indicates a high probability of flooding as a significant amount of rainfall exceeding 100mm is expected over the extreme northeastern part of KZN.”
He said disaster teams would be on standby in areas at risk.
“As a department, we have activated our disaster teams in all the municipalities that are likely to be affected to be on high alert during this period. We advise communities to seek shelter in safe places. Public facilities, such as community halls, are open as safe havens for those in need of shelter.”
