IEC identifies individual behind leak of candidate lists

JOHANNESBURG - The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has identified an individual believed to have leaked the African National Congress (ANC) and uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK)parties candidates lists, using the commission's internal systems.
A briefing by the IEC is underway in Centurion, where it has given updates on recent developments ahead of the polls in May.
On Friday, the two lists started circulating on social media, hours after they were submitted by the parties.
The IEC said its preliminary investigation shows that the documents were generated from a work station in its headquarters, before they were deleted.
IEC Chief Electoral Commissioner Sy Mamabolo, "The work station was secured and images in the presence of the official whose credentials were used to generate the report. a forensic analysis of that computer is currently underway.corrective action in terms of applicable labour laws is underway and the official has been asked to motivate why they should not be fired."
