Temperatures soared to 40 degrees celsius in the northern parts of the country.
Gauteng residents are also feeling the heat, but forecaster Celeste Fourie said it was not enough to reach the heatwave threshhold.
Fourie cautioned residents to find ways to stay cool this coming week.
"It’s the basics of staying hydrated with non-alcoholic beverages, staying in the the shade during the warmest times of the day. If possible, try to work in the shade. Don’t stay near any appliances that will add to the heat that’s currently persisting."
