DURBAN - The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) is set to launch its manifesto for the upcoming elections under the theme “Let's do it for Shenge”.
This will be the party’s first manifesto launch without its founder and president Emeritus Mangosuthu Buthelezi who died in September last year.
The IFP believes using its late leader’s face in its campaign, will yield the desired outcomes.
On Sunday, the IFP will launch its manifesto ahead of this year’s polls at the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban hot on the heels of the Economic Freedom Fighters and African National Congress who used the same venue.
According to party representatives, the latest manifesto will significantly reflect on the wishes of its late leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi.
The party enjoys a large support base in KwaZulu-Natal, particularly in the northern parts of the province, including the Zululand and King Cetshwayo districts.
The party is the official opposition in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature and runs various municipalities in the province including districts claimed from the ANC in the 2021 local government polls.
Its gains in previous local polls boosted the party’s confidence as it believes it has a better chance to win KZN from the governing party.
But some have argued that with the emergence of the Umkhonto Wesizwe Party, this may just be a pipe dream.
The party is confident that it will fill up the over 50,0000 seater stadium in Durban.
