Claude Mashego wants to be South Africa’s fourth Miss World.
Contestants will face off for the 2024 Miss World crown at the Jio World Convention Centre in India on Saturday (9 March).
The 24-year-old doctor won the first Miss World pageant in October last year.
Previously, Miss South Africa (or a runner-up) would compete at the pageant.
Three Miss SA’s have been Miss World – Penelope Coelen (1958), Anneline Kriel (1974) and Rolene Strauss (2014).
At her send-off, Mashego says it has always been her dream to be on the Miss World stage.
“Back when my grandmother was still alive, we used to watch Miss World on SABC 3 and that dream of me saying to her that I will stand on that stage one day is happening. I just cannot believe that this is me doing it and with all the support in this room.”
